How many sanding steps are needed to fully remove oxidation?

We recommend using 600 grit for most headlights. For more severely oxidized headlights, start with 320 grit, then 400 grit, and finish with 600 grit for the smoothest result before applying clear coat.

How many sanding steps are needed to fully remove oxidation?

Most headlights only need one sanding step with 600 grit. Severely oxidized headlights require three steps: 320 grit to cut through heavy oxidation, 400 grit to smooth the surface, and 600 grit to finish and prepare for clear coat.

Are these sandpapers good for headlight restoration?

Yes! We specifically use silicon carbide sandpaper, which through testing has proven to be the best for headlight restoration. Other types, like aluminum oxide, garnet, or zirconia sandpapers, can be too harsh and may scratch or damage headlight surfaces. Silicon carbide offers the right balance of cutting power and smooth finishing for polycarbonate lenses.
